SBS Special Boat Service Organization
Just as in many other secretive military troop sectors, the Ministry of Defense refuses to discuss matters and information regarding the Special Boat Service. Therefore much information on the SBS simply does not exist in the public province. However, reports suggest the SBS is divided into four operational squadrons and one training wing. These squadrons are supported by personnel drawn from the Royal Marines, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the British Army.
The SBS is under the Operational Command of Director Special Forces, which
allocates resources to the Permanent Joint Headquarters. Forces are deployed, as needed, for missions and are utilized in many other military tasks
SBS qualified personnel are known as "Swimmer Canoeists" and are engaged in one of the outfitted squadrons, training wing or somewhere else in the RM, RN, DSF or MOD.
As stated prior, the SBS consists of four squadrons. Two of the SBS squadrons, squadron C and squadron X, support all general SBS tasks. The M squadron is the Maritime Counter-Terrorism and shipboard operations unit. The Z squadron conducts small watercraft and mini-sub insertions. The Training Wing carries out the selection and continuation training for SBS recruits. SBS personnel have previously been required to return to their main Commando force after an initial three year tour, possibly returning again after a short period of time.
The Special Forces element of 3 Commando Brigade is usually provided by the
SBS, tasked from the Directorate of Special Forces. The SBS Reserve (SBS(R)) provides individual reservists to serve with the regular SBS rather than forming independent teams.
